INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING? SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER HERE

Want to start volunteering at KHS? You’ve come to the right place! Sign up to volunteer here. We are so excited for you to join our team. Whether you’re able to volunteer on a regular basis or you’re only available for a short time, we are so grateful for your help!

We ask for at least 6 hours per month of volunteer service for consistency, but require at least 4 hours a month to stay active. If you are unable to commit to 4 hours of volunteer time, you may need to be revaluated/trained upon return.  This is just because things are always changing in the shelter and we’re always learning better ways to care for our animals. We do encourage volunteers to set up a regular scheduled routine, because it helps with consistency and getting to know your fellow volunteers and the shelter animals better.

Our volunteer requirements are structured for the safety and well-being of our volunteers and our animals. We ask that you kindly adhere to them. Mahalo!

Requirements:

  • Minors between 10-15 can volunteer, however must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the shelter.
  • Minors between the ages of 16-18 are welcome to volunteer without a guardian, but you must have your parent or legal guardian sign a waiver form.
  • Must adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must purchase a Volunteer t-shirt $10.00 each.
  • Must wear shoes that cover the entire foot (no flip-flops or Crocks).

Follow these easy steps to get started!

We are dedicated in making sure everyone feels comfortable, if you feel extra training may be needed, just let the Volunteer Coordinator know.

What you will need to know:

  • Bring your waiver form if you haven’t already handed it in.
  • Wear shoes/sneakers/boots that cover the entire foot.
  • Wear your Volunteer T-shirt (this is so staff and the public can recognize you as a volunteer)
  • Have your volunteer badge (received during orientation) placed where others can see it.
  • Please leave all valuables either at home or locked in your car.
  • Water bottles are welcomed, but please no glass.
  • When you start your shift, please remember to sign-in at the Volunteer Room.

We look forward to working with you! The Kaua`i Humane Society relies on its volunteers to make sure everything is running smoothly and our animals receive the proper care and attention they all deserve, and there’s a lot of them. Your helping hands will help to ensure homeless animals are being properly cared for, and are ready to be adopted!

DAILY VOLUNTEER SIGN-UPS

First and foremost, “MAHALO” for your dedication and commitment! Our volunteers are absolutely essential to keeping KHS operating smoothly. Your hard work helps the lives of thousands of dogs and cats every year.

We ask for at least 6 hours per month of volunteer service for consistency, but require at least 4 hours a month to stay active. If you are unable to commit to 4 hours of volunteer time, you may need to be revaluated/trained upon returning.  This is just because things are always changing in the way we manage the shelter because we are always learning how to make the shelter environment less stressful for the animals. We do encourage volunteers to set up a regular scheduled routine, because it helps with consistency and getting to know your fellow volunteers better.

When volunteering you must wear an approved volunteer t-shirt and badge. This is so both staff and the public can recognize you as a volunteer as you move throughout the shelter. The badge will be provided on the first day of training. You must wear shoes/sneakers that completely cover your toes and heel. It is highly recommended that long pants are worn, so that you have an extra layer of protection against potential scratches.

All children between 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times while volunteering in the shelter.

We appreciate your ability to adhere to our policies, yet be flexible to meet the ever-changing needs of our dynamic shelter. Please contact Shannon Malnicof  at volunteers@kauaihumane.org or 808- 632-0610 x118 with questions, concerns, or feedback.

Please sign-up for your shift with the link listed below. Please only sign-up for locations that you have been trained for and can complete tasks in without supervision. Mahalo!
