Overview

The Kauai Humane Society, seeks a part-time, temporary Kitten Care Technician. The Kitten Care Technician feeds, cleans, updates weights, and helps prepare kittens for foster homes. This position requires working positively in a team environment with other Animal Care Technicians to ensure cleaning procedures are performed following all sanitation protocols as well as reporting any medical concerns to the Animal Programs team. The Kitten Care Technician must foster two litters in the evenings of their work week.

Kitten Care Technician Qualifications:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent is preferred.
  • Experience handling cats is strongly preferred.

Kitten Care Technician Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure kittens are fed and watered in the morning.
  • Assist with elimination of kittens that are unable to perform the function on their own.
  • Assist with bottle feeding.
  • Disinfect kitten cages.
  • Clean and ensure disinfection of animal equipment such as dishes, bedding, toys, litter pans, and other items used in animal areas.
  • Restock foster supplies.
  • Report medical concerns.
  • Perform regular weighing of kittens.
  • Foster two litters in the evening of the work week (all supplies provided).

Kitten Care Technician Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work with kittens of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless valid, legal medical exemption documentation is provided.
  • Must be able to professionally and calmly deal with a fast-paced and changing workload, which at times can be stressful.
  • Must agree to work in an environment that, by nature of the industry, understands there may be occasional exposure to injured, sick, deceased and/or difficult animals with varying health concerns.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently and daily to perform duties.
  • Must be able to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds alone or up to 100 pounds with the help of fellow employees for short distances.
  • Must be able to chase or run after animals that might escape confinement.
  • Willingness to go the extra mile.

Job Types: 

Temporary – Saturday-Wednesday, 7am to 10am, June 4 – September 28, with possible extension

Pay: Wage is $6,000 for 17 weeks ($352.94/week)

 

COVID-19 considerations:

All staff, volunteers, and customers are required to wear a mask. Temperatures are taken when entering the building. Hand sanitizer is widely available.
