Shelter Pet Transfer Program

We are looking for volunteers flying to San Diego, Portland, Seattle, or Oakland on non-stop Alaska Airlines flights from Lihue!

dog-with-ball-in-mouth-at-kennelsAs an open admission shelter, the Kauai Humane Society accepts every homeless, abandoned, abused and unwanted animal in need of our help. Each year, we take in more than 4,300 homeless animals. Unfortunately, the number of homes available to abandoned pets on Kauai is limited by the size of our island community.

Our Shelter Pet Transfer Program helps save lives by sending dogs to mainland shelters with more exposure and high adoption rates. More than 625 animals have been sent to mainland shelters via Alaska Airlines since the start of the program in December 2012.

The cost of the flight for each dog flying alone is approximately $400, but if the dog is accompanied by a passenger, then the dog’s flight is FREE!  So we are always looking for Alaska Airlines travelers who are willing to escort a shelter dog traveling to the mainland.  This significantly helps us save more lives.  All you have to do is show up for your flight as scheduled, we’ll do the rest!

Contact with your flight date & destination.  Mahalo!
