Foster Care

They Need Your Help!

Each year, hundreds of animals arrive at the Kauai Humane Society that, for one reason or another, are not ready to be put up for adoption.  Foster care is a program specifically designed to place those animals into temporary homes where they can receive the care that they need.

Become a foster parent by providing a nurturing home environment for a special-needs animal. Help a homeless animal  to grow, heal, and socialize. Invite a litter of puppies or kittens into your home for a few weeks to socialize and have them mature to adoption weight and age. You can also help an animal through a medical trauma. We provide food, beds, medical treatments, and support. All you need to provide is the home and the love.

Responsibilities:  Feed, socialize, groom and medicate animals.  Ensure the animal’s safety and respond to the animal’s needs.

Required orientation and training:  Complete a volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation.

Placement:  After an animal is identified as a foster care candidate, a suitable foster parent will be notified. The animal(s) and associated paperwork are prepared for pickup by their foster family. We provide all of the necessary supplies, such as a carrier, litter box, bowls, food, and medication.
