They Need Your Help!
Each year, more than 3,000 animals arrive at the Kauai Humane Society, often times exceeding the space we have in the kennels. One of the best ways to make space for our animals and get them ready for either adoption or transfer to the mainland is through our foster program. Fosters provide critical temporary care for our dogs and cats, allowing us to save more animals and better prepare them for their loving forever homes.
Become a foster parent by providing a nurturing home environment for a special-needs animal or an animal waiting to transfer to the mainland. Help a homeless animal to grow, heal, and socialize. Invite a litter of puppies or kittens into your home — maybe with their nursing mom — to give them time to grow strong enough for their own homes! Or, for those special cases, help an animal recover from medical trauma or heartworm treatment. We provide food, beds, medical treatments, and support. All you need to provide is the home and the love.
What do I have to do? Feed, socialize, groom and medicate animals. Ensure the animal’s safety and respond to the animal’s needs.
How do I become a foster? Complete the KHS Animal Foster Questionnaire and have a conversation with a member of the KHS team.
Placement: KHS will let fosters know what animals are in need foster care. You let us know if there is a dog, cat, puppy or kitten you can help!
How long do I have to foster the animal for? Depends on what kind of fostering you are looking to do? We have some animals who are waiting to transfer and already have their plan tickets — all they need is a little R&R before the trip. We also have nursing moms and puppies or kittens who need 6-8 weeks to get ready for adoption. Other mother-less puppies or kittens may need a bit more time or care. We have something for everyone!
